Attendance Policy

Since there is a close connection between regular attendance and progress at school, parents are encouraged to promote steady attendance of their children.  An explanatory note to the teacher is also requested concerning each absence.  Students wishing to leave the school grounds during the Noon Hour must have written, parental consent.

Safety Phone Program

The main purpose of the Willow Park Safety Phone Program is to ensure the safety of all children attending Willow Park School.  If a student is absent without explanation, our secretaries will quickly check with parents or babysitter.  If there is a problem, the school can look into it immediately.  The program operates on an answering machine in operation 24 hours per day. All parents are asked to call (780)986-8456 when their child will be absent from school and please send a note to the child's teacher.

Accident/Sickness/School Nurse/Pediculosis (lice)

Effective September 4, 2001, a student accident insurance policy is place, paid for by the School Board.  This covers students while being transported to and from school, while at school and while on school sponsored activities.   Parents wishing additional 24 hour coverage may do so by contacting the insurance company directly (Seaboard Life Co.)

In the event of an accident or illness at school requiring medical attention, parents will be contacted.  If a parent cannot be located, school staff will take the child to the Leduc doctor listed on the registration form or directly to the Leduc Hospital, if necessary.  A school infirmary (sick room) is available for a student needing to lie down until he/she can be picked up.

It should be noted that a school nurse is at the school only periodically.  Although she is able to check complaints that are topical at the time, her main activity deals with immunization and a preventative medicine program set out for each grade.  The program, established by the Health Unit, operates through parent permission.

A group of parent volunteers screen all children for head lice immediately following major school holidays and as required.  All identified cases are referred to the school nurse, who contacts the parents.

Feel free to contact our school nurse. Ask for the Willow Park nurse directly by phoning the Health Unit at (780) 980-4644.

Bad Weather Days

Our school will remain open to all students on bad weather days.  Regional school buses may not operate on certain bad weather days, as announced on radio stations:  CFCW, CKJR, CISN, CFRN, CHED, CHQT, CBC & POWER 92 FM in the morning.

Rural parents and those whose children ride the special needs bus, please note that when buses are to be sent home early, announcements will be made over radio stations as indicated above.  If you may not be home, it is essential for your child to know what to do.

It's very important that students dress for the weather of the day.  Unless it's very cold, students go outside for recess and for noon hour itself and can warm up in the entrance as may be necessary.
