Thank you to all students, staff and the parents of Willow Park School for making my first week so exciting and memorable. It is a true pleasure to have been given this opportunity to work in such a dynamic and rewarding setting.
A little about myself. I have been teaching in the Greater Black Gold Region for my entire 18 year career starting in 1992 at Caledonia Park School in Leduc, as a physical education and science teacher. During my time there I was involved with their ski trips, assorted coaching duties (volleyball, track and field and badminton) and taught grades 5 to 9.
Then, in 2004 I moved to Riverview Middle School in Devon where I taught my other passion-social studies. In 2007 I was placed in Calmar Elementary School as the assistant principal. This past week I was given an exciting opportunity to come back to Leduc as the temporary principal of Willow Park School.
From the little I have seen thus far, it is clearly evident that many great things are happening at Willow Park School. I have witnessed how our tremendously dedicated staff provide exceptional programming to our diverse student population. On the
parent front, your PTA also has many keen and determined individuals who have, and are, raising a large amount of money for many important aspects of our school. Their efforts are a major reason that Willow Park students benefit from many subsidized programs ranging from assorted field trips, sports programs and our library to name but a few. The
students have also demonstrated great openness to change, and have embraced me with welcome arms. I truly feel welcome each and every day by their smiles, good wishes and hugs.
Wow and thank you!

Pancake Day is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16th.
As a special treat, the PTA and WPS Staff will once again be preparing a pan-
cake lunch for our students. The pancakes are provided free of charge to the students by the WPS Parent’s Association.
*If anyone has an electric griddle that they would be able to lend to us during this time, wewould very much appreciate it. We need about 4 of them.

An exciting day for Willow Park staff, students and community!
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday and that you were able to find some time to relax, get together with friends and family, and enjoy spending some quality time with your child(ren). The days after Christmas were always some of my favorites while my daughters were growing up. We would spend hours playing the new board games that they received, watching new movies, or trying out those new skates or toboggans. As I reflect on these wonderful memories I realize how quickly our children and students grow up. One day they are in kindergarten, the next day they are graduating. It makes me thankful for the time that I spend playing with my children. Hopefully you had a chance to spend lots of quality time with your children this past holiday.
Hopefully all the students are well rested after the break and are ready to get back into the swing of learning. January can be a great month to really focus on the academics as it is often too cold to spend much time outside. There are some wonderful websites on the Black Gold website http://blackgold.ab.ca/ict that can assist your child with what they are learning. Perhaps this would be a great way to see what your child is capable of while having some fun with them.
It has come to my attention that some students are bringing toys to school, such as Bakugans. This is creating a bit of an issue as students are trading them, or they are being lost or stolen. I am asking that your child leave their toys at home. The school will not be responsible for any toys or electronics that go missing or get broken while at school. Thank you for your support with this issue.
A big highlight for January will be the Olympic Torch Relay that will be going through Leduc on Friday, January 15. According to the map of the route they should be passing right in front of the school. The whole school will be going outside to cheer on the torch bearer. It is exciting that the students will have the opportunity to witness this event. In order to make the event more special we will be having an additional spirit day in conjunction with the torch relay. We will be having a red and white day to cheer on Canada. Come dressed in red and white or any Canadian paraphernalia and get into the spirit of the Olympics.
